Mandala for World Peace, Poland 2002

Thanks to the kindness of Venerable Tenga Rinpoche, who as the abbot of Benchen monastery sent his monks to Szczecin, the mandala of the Red Chenrezik (tib. Gyalwa Gyamtso) was constructed in the hall of the Pomeranian Library. In the framework of the event "Mandala for World Peace, Poland 2002", two monks: Tsundru Zangpo and Rinchen Namgyal created it with the intention of increasing world peace. Venerable Tenga Rinpoche is one of the greatest masters of Tibetan Buddhism and his monks are famous for their masterly skill in, among others, mandala creating.

Having its ancient origin, the art of mandala creating is an important part of Buddhist tradition and a sample of the disappearing culture of Tibetan nation. It is a universal symbol and practice aiming at increasing worl peace and weakening the bad powers of the Universe. According to Buddhist teachings it also reinforces the positive aspects of mind and eliminates those destructive ones. The mandala of the Red Chenrezik typifies two fundamental Buddhist virtues: compassion and loving kindness.

The solemn opening of the event took place on Saturday, September 28th, at 12 o'clock. Then mandala creating started. The monks worked nearly a week, spending every day many hours on their hard and extremely absorbing task. They finished on Friday, October 4th, in the forenoon.

The whole ceremony was officially closed on the 5th of October, at 12 o'clock. The monks proceeded to the Waly Chrobrego, where the sand from mandala was poured to the Odra river, with the intention of spreading over the whole world the goodness accumulated during mandala creating to the benefit of all sentient beings.

The honorary guest of the event was Mrs. Barbara Labuda, a minister from the Chancellery of the President of Poland.
